Thyroid Disorders

Another key focus of the clinic is the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disorders. This includes:

• Hyperthyroidism, e.g. Graves' disease, toxic thyroid adenoma
• Hypothyroidism, e.g. Hashimoto's thyroiditis
• Thyroid carcinoma

Anthroposophic medicines that can be used here include Colchicum autumnale (autumn crocus) for latent or overt signs of an overactive thyroid, cuprite and Bryophyllum for Graves' disease, and Levico water and chalcocite for Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Internal medical examinations are part of the diagnosis of thyroid disorders along with high-resolution ultrasound diagnosis with colour duplex; in certain cases, thyroid gland scintigraphy is also used as a nuclear medical procedure, along with laboratory parameters. Finally, some thyroid disorders require cytological examination of aspiration biopsies.
