We have set up specialised “pelvic floor and continence consulting hours” for women with urinary incontinence (involuntary loss of urine) or uterine prolapse and similar problems.
Our unit houses a urodynamic test site, so that we can make a precise diagnosis following a gynaecological examination that includes an ultrasound and urodynamic exam. This makes it possible to plan individual treatment for our patients.
With stress urinary incontinence (i.e., urine loss from coughing, laughing, sneezing) training the pelvic floor muscles is often insufficient, and an operation may be necessary.
With a uterine or bladder prolapse, a urodynamic examination can rule out the emergence of a formerly “hidden” incontinence following surgical correction of the prolapse. If this “masked stress incontinence” is detected during the exam, the symptoms can be treated during the same surgical procedure. This means that our patients do not need to be re-admitted to hospital because of a newly diagnosed urinary incontinence.
All conventional vaginal operations are performed in our ward. We have exceptionally broad experience with the TVT procedure – a very gentle yet highly effective incontinence operation that does not involve abdominal incision.
More information on examination procedures can be found here.
