Electrogastography (EGG)
EGG allows registering electrical signals in the stomach with the help of the electrodes adjusted to the abdominal wall. This way it is possible to gain information about gastric voiding disorder and other functional characteristics of the stomach, without being exposed to x-rays.
What does an examination look like and what should I pay attention to?
In order to perform the procedure, it is necessary to observe fasting rules for 6 hours before it. After adjusting the electrodes at the abdominal wall, measurement of electrical signals that travel through the stomach takes place, first, on an empty stomach and then after having some breakfast (liquid meal and a rusk). By doing so, the patient is lying as relaxed as possible in a darkened room. The whole examination takes about 75 minutes and is completely pain-free.
