Diabetic Foot Syndrome
Only a few facilities in Berlin focus on diabetic foot syndrome and treat it effectively.
The Diabetes Unit of the Havelhöhe Community Hospital is recognised by the German Diabetes Association (Deutsche Diabetesgesellschaft - DDG) as a facility for inpatient treatment of diabetic foot syndrome.
All types of wounds are treated at the Havelhöhe Wound Centre in cooperation with the Diabetes Unit and the surgical department in Havelhöhe. There is also

cooperation with the interventional radiology clinic led by Prof. Duda, the Hubertus Hospital’s centre for vascular disease, the Hartmann orthopaedic shoe store and podiatrists. Disorders that are treated include:
- Diabetic foot syndrome
- Arterial and venous leg ulcers
- Postoperative wound healing disorders
- Ulcerating wounds with cancers and lymphomas
Many complex wounds have been successfully treated as a result of the interdisciplinary collaboration of the team, which has involved combining common wound care strategies with complementary medicinal methods, such as wound care with Manuka honey compresses.
Numerous diabetic patients have been able to avoid lower leg or femoral amputation (major amputation) thanks to our experience and cooperation with our surgical department, the interventional radiology clinic of Prof. Duda, the Hubertus Hospital’s centre for vascular disease, a podiatrist (medical foot specialist) and an orthopaedic shoemaker.
